The last thread is SO long, could we maybe make this a new one for Cata and sticky? March 5 2011, our first attempt at Blackwing DescentNot bad for our first foray into raiding in Cataclysm we got Magmaw down and then worked on the defense council for about an hour, making a lot of progress on it, IMO.

Parasitic InfectionParasitic Infection is what happens when you let the parasites get too close. In the beginning we had some come into the melee, but range was getting a better handle on them on later attempts, so not worried about that anymore. Melee also picked up a few on some of the wipes and I'm not really worried about that either, it's going to happen. Range though, while you are dps'ing these things down, if they get close, you need to back up. I'm sure some were because of wipes and learning the fight and all that and that's ok, but this is something we need to be aware of and get better at. It adds up to a lot of damage that can be avoided and also ends up taking dps time off the boss.

I saw my name at the top of that list (I seemed to always have aggro on the lot of them..which makes sense with SV AoE), so I'll definitely try and avoid them better next time . I bet the numbers went down though through the encounter. I know we did a bit better at this as time went by.

This kind of stuff is endlessly fascinating to me: Xephion heals Magmaw, March 17 2011Donnigan heals Magmaw, February 19 2011Same fight, same class, and comparable gear, totally different spreads, different positioning (Xeph appears to have been in with the melee, I tend to stay with the ranged), and different play styles (Xeph likes to Crusader Strike for Holy Power, I don't). I'm not saying either of us is "doing it wrong" or anything like that. It's just interesting to see different styles in action.

Xeph is on MT heals for that fight, FWIW.

Xeph is on MT heals for that fight, FWIW. So was I. It's kind of a given that we'd both be the MT healers. It's a paladin's lot in life, really. In that regard, our heals-to-the-main-tank look about equal in terms of percentage of healing done to the MT (and percentage of healing received by the MT). As an aside, it's a bit of a misconception now that paladins are *only* MT healers who can't raid heal for jack. While certainly true back in the day, we've got the tools to solid raid healers nowadays (Holy Radiance being the biggie, Light of Dawn to a lesser extent). In a few fights, we absolutely have to be. I'm looking at you, Al'akir.

3/31/2011: Halfus, Magmaw and Omnitron killGot a late start and had some issues with Omnitron, but all in all a good night. One shot on Halfus, one shot on Magmaw and drop Omnitron after a few attempts. Tonight; Maloriak and Atramedes!
