And here we go! This is the next campaign I'l be running. i put together a super brief guide to get you started. You can certainly visit that link on a phone or tablet, but it will look like ass. Please to be use desktop. I don't think making this site mobile optimized is the best use of my time. The tentative schedule is: April 13: rolliin' characters April 27: playing? I'm not available on the weekend of May 4th, but at least we will be getting things started. As far as I know the folks playing are Bob, Mike, Cheryle, Dan, and Jerry (?). The rules are the Trailblazer modification of 3rd Edition. If you haven't played 3rd edition before I am totally cool with you using regular ol' 3rd edition books, or the Pathfinder revision. The Pathfinder intro boxed set is pretty awesome if you are just getting started.

Also, we've played a bunch of campaigns that have tenuous links to each other. Don't worry if you don't follow something or place names or relationships are unclear. Knowing how these games work, they tend to travel their own path anyway and there might only be a snippet of information in that guide that eventually turns out to be relevant. Also, also: while I will certainly give you guys a nudge on "things to do" when we start playing, I am always ready to veer in whatever direction you want. The sooner the better for me actually. If the guide gives you an idea for something you want your dude (or dudette) to tackle, let me know and we can do that.

I'm not going to be able to set the time aside to play guys, sorry. I'm in the beginning of a new relationship with a wonderful woman, I picked up another night of volleyball and with the spring/summer coming up, my weekends are going to be packed. I look forward to keeping in touch on the boards and hearing about how things are going though!

No problem Jerry! Glad to hear things are going well in your life. Please keep checking in. I'm sure we'll be playing a game together again at some point in the future!

Strangely enough, the super brief guide was more readable on my iPhone than the desktop I'm using.
Liking Trailblazer so far. Even the things I'm not so sure about I think have enough chance of working that I'm willing to give them a try. Haven't read far enough to see what I want to play. I'm looking to multi-class caster since that's been virtually impossible since 2E. So I'm excited to give it a try.

1) I'm highly recommend reading Trailblazer to people in this game. It will play very different than any edition I've played. Very probably in a good way. But there are a lot of changes, some working in concert with one another.
2) I wanted to play a multiclassed caster. I was hoping for a conjuror/druid, but it appears to frown on people playing more than one piece on the battlemat. Leaving all pieces but the PC in control of the DM. While I agree with their rational, I can't do that to John. He has enough to keep track of besides my summoned monsters and animal companions.
3) So how about a manipulator? I'm thinking Bard/Cleric. Maybe gets a bit evil for people's' comfort zones though.
Thoughts?

Also, what's the ability score method? Point buy? Elite 6? I kinda wanna start noodling around.

I'm glad you liked Trailblazer mike. If there are things you are unsure of, throw them out here so we can discuss. 1) Summoning. From what I remember, limiting summoned critters or allies was intended to prevent a single player suddenly playing a SWAT team of brilliant combat commandos. I think the deemphasis on summons, and making pets and allies follow a narrow range of orders cuts down on both their effectiveness and the amount of time it takes to run them (no more counting squares to avoid AoOs... Fido just charges the nearest enemy, etc.) I think if summoned critters follow a dumbed down AI script and we spread out the rolling of their attacks (maybe everybody gets to run one of your summoned hell hounds or whatever) it might be ok. My concerns are: - I don't want to end up rolling and running multiple groups against each other because it's boring for the players. - I don't want one player ending up running and rolling a large group by themselves because it's boring for the other players. - With more creatures, combats will take longer. On the other hand, mooks, hirelings, war dogs, etc. are part of DnD to me, and I'd like to keep the option of them available. P.S. I don't know how the campaign will develop, but there's more palm trees and deserts than a typical European style DnD game. Not sure how that impacts a druid, but thought I'd mention it. 2) Ability Scores. I like rolling. I like the ritual of it. I heard about the "bingo" method of rolling and was thinking of trying it. Here's how it works. We roll six sets of abilities (4d6 drop the lowest) in order. Each set becomes a column in a table, and then the rows are assigned to abilities too. That's confusing, here look: Each player has rolled all six ability scores (STR, DEX, CON, etc.) and due to some freak occurrence happened to roll identical numbers for all of their stats. Dan rolled all 18s Mike rolled all 17s Bob rolled all 16s Cheryle rolled all 15s John rolled all 14s Uh.. rachel rolled all 13s | STR | DEX | CON | INT | WIS | CHA | STR | 18 | 17 | 16 | 15 | 14 | 13 | DEX | 18 | 17 | 16 | 15 | 14 | 13 | CON | 18 | 17 | 16 | 15 | 14 | 13 | INT | 18 | 17 | 16 | 15 | 14 | 13 | WIS | 18 | 17 | 16 | 15 | 14 | 13 | CHA | 18 | 17 | 16 | 15 | 14 | 13 |
Next you pick either a row, column or diagonal (just like Bingo) as the stats for your character. You don't have to pick the stats you roll (but because you need to pick a row or diagonal you'll get at least one of them) Now, Mike picks the column with all 18s (because that is the obviously the correct answer and why would you gimp yourself?), Dan picks the column with the 13s (because why would you want to make things easy on yourself? It's more fun if its hard), Cheryle reads right across the top row because she wants to play a strong asshole, and Bob picks the diagonal because he also wants to play a strong asshole, but he's going to be different about it. So! Everybody gets access to the same pool of stats, you still get to roll, and there's a little hint of randomness but without requiring you to play exactly what you roll. I dunno, it just seemed like a fun group activity to do while we eat pizza. What do you think?

Aaaaaaaagreed. Why were we still talking about summoners? Seriously, I agree with the rationale behind not being a conjuror. Just as serious, I was thinking of being a enchanter manipulator type and was looking for everyone's opinion on it

Do we have enough players to play bingo?

Just as serious, I was thinking of being a enchanter manipulator type and was looking for everyone's opinion on it I've always wanted to play a summoner. If you had your heart set on it, I wanted to get the challenges out in the open so we could consider solutions. I can't comment on playing Dr. Mindbender. They are powerful, but there are risks. That charm wearing off the hill giant while only one person's on watch would suuuuuuuck

Also, you can do bingo with one player. You just need to generate six sets of stats and plunk them into the grid. Somebody can double up and roll more than once if necessary, although I'm sure Rachel and Andy would be happy to volunteer.

I like the guide.
And it's nice to have a clear-cut objective: Debark in Ophir. Proceed Upriver. Conquer the Garden of the Blossom Eaters.
