I like the guide. And it's nice to have a clear-cut objective: Debark in Ophir. Proceed Upriver. Conquer the Garden of the Blossom Eaters. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy

Hey Dan. From what I remember we usually play from 6 to 10 on Sundays. Bob said he had an early engagment on April 14 (Monday), so he wanted to do an afternoon session for rolling characters on the 13th, but I haven't heard him mention what time would work for him.

Bob's been working the Nationals down in Reston all week :-). Let me get with Jill and see what time works.

Cheryle wants to play a "Whirling Dervish". Thoughts on the way to go about that in this system?
Barbarian=angry whirling dervish Fighter=customized whirling dervish Ranger=woodsy whirling dervish Rogue=sneaky back stabbing whirling dervish Monk=swordless whirling dervish? (Monks I think can actually use weapons)
So, yeah, a lot of ways it could go. But I think she's going for the lots of mobility and lots of attacks and essentially dexterity based defense.

I'd suspect Barbarian, Fighter, or Rogue would make for the best Whirling Dervishes. At the moment, I'm playing a Monk, so was just reading this bit :-). Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Monks are proficient with club, crossbow (light or heavy), dagger, handaxe, javelin, kama, nunchaku, quarterstaff, sai, shuriken, siangham, sling, and spear (including shortspear and long spear). Monks are not proficient with any armor or shields. Centered Bonus: When wearing armor, using a shield, carrying a medium or heavy load, or using a weapon not listed above, a monk is no longer centered. A monk who is not centered loses many of her class abilities, including her centered bonus, her reaction bonus, her fast movement, and her flurry of blows abilities. While she is centered, the monk applies the listed centered bonus to attack rolls (including combat maneuvers).

We'll, if you're playing a monk, that's reason enough not to go with monk. And your monk might cover the party for our roguish needs, but maybe sneak attack is something that would work with the design...

Yeah, I think the Monk description said they can Find/Remove Traps and Open Locks, which is basic Roguing stuff. Still, that wouldn't at all preclude Cheryle from going Rogue, or even Monk.

It might sound weird, but Barbarian might work. From what I remember, they get AC bonuses to cover not wearing heavy armor, and their rage could be treated as "whirling dance of death". Mechanically, I think it could work, and we would just rename the abilities to fit her concept.

Yeah, was just looking at barbarian when you posted. They actually have 2 types of rage now. One is called "Whirling frenzy".
Some nice features to the other classes though... Sigh.

Alright alright alright. We doing this thing?
Sunday 4pm - 7ish / 7:30-ish? Roll up some characters Eat some dinner Fill out a character sheet Buy equipment Make plans for world domination
I don't have a physical copy of Trailblazer or Pathfinder. I have a couple iPads I can put it on, but if you have one yourself you can bring with it that would be swell.
I'll print out some Pathfinder character sheets, but if there's a specific sheet type you want to use, please send me a link today or print and bring yoself.
My house is still not on GPS. Here is the nearest coordinates that shows paved roads on Google maps: 39.223390, -77.244392
If arriving from 270: Take exit 16A (Rt 27 towards Damascus) Cross rt 355 (major intersection) Drive 1 mile Take a left on Apple Orchard Take a left on Muscadine Take a left on Emerald Green Cross Snowden Farm Parkway (its large, divided road. It will be unfinished on your left) Take the second right onto Echo Point Place. My house is next to the playground (11923 Echo Point Pl).

Understood. Cheryle seems to be settled in on the whirling frenzy barbarian at least for 1st level. I'm thinking there are at least 2 levels of rogue in her future somewhere. But if the party is in need of some tanking (which is handled beautifully, way better than 4e, by this 3.X variant), she'll take a level of fighter (or two). With no "favored class" BS, that's slightly more doable and somewhat less headachey.

Awesome fantshmasmic.
Mike, you've dropped a couple "Trailblazer does this better than 3 / 3.5 / 4", but if you have a chance I'd like you to talk a bit about what you mean or like about these facets? I need to reread the rules again (I've read them twice in the last few years, but its been a few months), but I want to make sure I'm on the same page as you. We can just discuss it this weekend if you are too busy to type anything up.
