So, I reupped for the expansion per my plan. I went in completely blind, having not read anything beyond "Illidan's in it, it's called Legion, and it gets released on 8/30." Here's the take so far:
1. Loving the class hall stuff, at least for the Warrior. Thematically, it's very right. Played a bit of the Warlock, Mage, and Pally as well (waiting to bring Donni up until Jill hits 100. 2. I'm not one to gush over lore stuff, but they *crushed* the retribution pally opening quest. Just totally nailed it. 3. Love love love the scaling zones. Basically, you can start in any of the zones and progress through them at your own choosing. The zones level with you. 4. The other thing is that the zones level with every player individually. So, if I'm 105 and you're 100, we'll be killing the same mobs (even together), but mine are 105 and yours are 100. That's extremely cool, and kinda slows my roll on "I'm waiting for Jill to start levelling Donni," because she won't get screwed by rolling with someone a few levels above her.
So far, nothing to complain about at all. One of the maps is a little too three-dimensional for my tastes (lotta stuff way up there, but how do you get there), but that's just me.

Good info... thanks for posting your thoughts! I've been thinking about re-subbing as well, at least for a month since I know I've got the ~30k to pay for at least a month with WoW gold as apposed to real money.
WoW has always been a social game for me though. I've enjoyed playing, but it's playing with friends that keeps me going with it, so I was kind of just hanging out to see if anyone else within the Frost Donkey guild was returning to give this a shot.

Dark Fist is mostly playing in some form/guild or another. Seen a lot of people around. AoD not so much, though Mike N. has expressed interest in resubbing a while. I'm trying to not be spoilery on account of y'all really ought to see it for yourselves, but thus far, it's been my favorite first-ten-days or so of any expansion.

Ugh! Stop tempting me. I've been considering resubbing. My computer is due for a replacement and I've been holding out to see if the new macbooks are worth upgrading to, or if I should just gut my old one and replace the hardware.
I know I didn't complete the last expansion. There was some demon invasion to help people get max leveled in prep for Legion. Is that over? I know I can bump one of my characters to max level, but what about the rest?

Bob can probably confirm this, but I believe the "Demon Invasion" event was a pre-expansion event and is no longer running now that the Legion is now actually here. With the purchase of the expansion, you'll get to choose 1 character to raise to the starting level of this expansion, the others you'll have to get there the old fashion way.

The invasion event was pre-expansion only. You get an auto-level-to-100 button for one toon (and can buy more for $60 a pop, but, I mean, c'mon now). They've added a couple of things to help speed up the levelling process, but you'll still have to get there the usual way.

Any way to check my old characters? I tried to find the Armory but it appears to be gone? I also tried to log in to my account but can't remember my password. Too much trouble to reset it just to see what level my dudes are.

Outside of logging in, if you used some sort of logging system (Curse, WoW Head, etc), those websites may still have your character information out there at their site. You could also check the guild website from the WoW site itself: us.battle.net/wow/en/guild/argent-dawn/Frost_DonkeyYou should be able to find your characters in there somewhere, that are in the Frost Donkey guild at least. Those are the only ways I can think of right now.

Armory's still there, it just doesn't show you if you haven't logged in for years. Same thing happened with the Igans.

So one other spiffy thing this expansion. Similar to the Garrison, you have a "Class Hall" or "Order Hall." All members of your class share the same space, but interact distinctly with it (think, like, Ironforge or Stormwind - all the players are there, but only your actions affect your experience there; Cobo can't change Donni's drapes). Like with Draenor, you send followers out on missions. Unlike with Draenor, they have a phone app that you can use to do that stuff kinda at your leisure. Very cool stuff.

I came back for Legion as well. I reupped a few days for the xpac released and was gald to see the the guild was still around, but going through the list, it appeared as if only a handful of people I didn't recognize were now playing. Most of the toons I remember hadn't been on in ages. Currently running on Moon Guard Horde with my druid. If we have enough people coming back, I may be enticed to return to Akuza, and then I'll have to run through WoD since I skipped that.

I resubbed as well earlier this week. I had a lot of house keeping to do with getting my addons in order, getting old garrison stuff put away and taken care of and then worked into the opening quests of the expansion. Last night and the night before that were really my first 2 days experiencing the new content. The first night, I spent a couple hours questing, opening up the expansion content and getting my artifact. The sencond night, I hit the 101 level and really started getting my Class Hall going and that is where I am at now. Today, I've been spending time, on the phone app, logging in here and there at work, sending out my 2 champions and various troops on missions and collecting the goodies that they've been able to collect out on their travels.
My initial impressions... it is fun and I'm really enjoying it. The only aspect of the expansion that I'm missing is the guild/party play. As Akuza mentioned, there just aren't that many people back... yet. Sounds like a handful are tossing the idea around of resubbing and I'm looking forward to that as well.
On shadow priests... The new Insanity resource is taking a bit to get used to, but the concept and idea behind it is exciting to me, especially with the level 100 talent Surrender to Madness
On artifacts... I'm liking this as well. Still trying to figure out all the new buzz words that go with it and the purpose behind them (artifact power, relic, etc.), but it is kind of cool that your weapon is pretty much set for the expansion. I can see how some may not like that, but I am of the opinion that it is a good thing.
On class halls... So far, so good. I only have 2 champions and have just really started playing in my class hall last night and a bit on my phone through out the day today, so I've only scratched the surface, but I like where it's going. Looks like you only have 5 champions you can use, so I think they've toned it down from dozens of followers like in WoD, which I like that decision as well.
Anyways, it's fun and I am really looking forward to seeing people coming back!

Yeah, Akuza is level 90, since I skipped WoD. I'm having a lot of fun with Legion so far. My biggest selling point is the story. As an avid RP'er, and lore junkie, I love the story....it's pissed me off a few times, I mean this is WoW not GoT, but that is just part of what I love, Blizz hasn't been afraid to take chances. The Order halls quest (at least the Druid and what I have seen of Demon Hunter) have been great and unique.
Really need to take a look at the Hunter stuff though, because I have always been a supporter of Survival, even when it was the "Melee" option prior to 1.7. Now it is a true melee option. So that would take some getting used to. It would be nice to break out the old toons and bring their stories back up to speed.

Was on fall break last week, so went to Michigan for the week to visit family, so I wasn't around...
I did want to re-iterate the fact that the zones leveling with you is an amazing thing. I really enjoy the fact that I don't out level a zone. I can quest through a whole zone and it will be challenging throughout the entire zone. I can run dungeons, level in there and come back out and the zone is still my level. I think that part is really really nice.
