lol, I like the last line of the writers introduction sentence. "You read it here first." Like you said, Bob. None of these ideas are new.. I've read enough science fiction books over the the last 30 years that I could have written that article and stated the exact same thing. I probably would have excluded the last sentence though.

Not really science, but I thought this was the best home for it. It got a "heh" out of me.

There was a great April Fools article in Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution (a real journal) about the phylogenetic placement of the Yeti.

Lets hope the fallout from this is limited to your evening commute and doesn't result in painting all "elitist, leftist Darwinian scientists" as baby-hating lunatics for the next 10 years. Not that anybody would stoop so low...

He had me until "...and of course, the squirrels." Anybody who wants to save squirrels has got to be a crackpot! ;D
On a more serious note, I'm pretty sure the hostages aren't too concerned about commute times or even the political backlash at this point. Unfortunately, seeing this guy's manifesto, he seems likely to eliminate as many "filthy polluting humans" as he can before eliminating his own pollution for good.

On a serious note, I'm very glad the hostages all got out OK.
As for Glen Beck, whatever. I guess we Darwinist baby haters (the irony made me laugh out loud) will have to eliminate him sooner or later. Dude knows too much about our secret agenda.

As an Atheist, darwinst, non-baby hater, I'm gonna have to play devil's avocate here: First of all, the screen shot of Glen Beck (and resulting commentary) was taken from an episode that was aired in February 2009 and has nothing to do with the psycho-extremist-leftist-baby-hating wacko that was "snipered" (thank goodness) earlier this week. As for Glen Beck's content, it was totally out of context in regards to the current events. It was more towards how to indoctronate children to a specific way of thinking (propaganda) not how to control populations, as the now dead boy was advocating. As far as Nazi experiments and their eugenics programs ( which Glenn Beck is refering to,) here's what they did: If the baby was diagnosed with type of abnormality, it was aborted (which could be the way now,)and if not aborted it was sent to the SS for experimentation. Second: Babies borne in Nazi Germany were of two types, the ones I mentioned above and the ones that were not so lucky. If a baby was borne of "non aryan" blood, it was experiment upon t find out why not. Some survived, most didn't. They also required that people of certain ethnic groups (or of different ethnic groups) not have babies as to not dilute the aryan race. As far as the backlash of what this guy did in regards to painting all "elitist, leftist Darwinian Scientists' as "baby-hating lunatics," I give you this: The Tea party movement is painted as an antebellum (pre civil war for those that don't know what antebellum means,) racist movement and has been (and still continues to be,) condemned, bashed and dismissed by many "elitists leftist" groups, but the comments by several "colored"individuals say otherwise: Here's just one example: jeromehudsonspeaks.weebly.com/yet for almost a year and a half, the Tea Party movement has been linked with racism and the KKK. But we won't mention Robert Byrd, will we? Nor will we mention the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in which (The bill came before the full Senate for debate on March 30, 1964 and the "Southern Bloc" of 18 southern Democratic Senators and one Republican Senator led by Richard Russell (D-GA) launched a filibuster to prevent its passage.") was passed by the House and Senate and signed into Law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. If he didn't have a bully pulpit, would it have passed? Anyway, What's good for the goose is good for gander, so they. but does that paint everyone as a vile extremist like this guy. Nope... It sure doesn't. On another note: Just so we're clear, I don't wish ill on anyone that has done no physical harm to anyone on this planet no matter thier views. I'm just sayin'

I picked a random image of Glenn from google image search. I should have taken my own advice and left politics out of this. Truce?

Truce? I didn't know we were fighting. I took no offense to your post and I hope you took no offense to mine. The point I was trying to make was that no one, no matter their beliefs, deserves to be pigeon-holed because of the acts of some pyshco that takes things to the extreme of whatever spectrum their beliefs take them. The actions of what this guy did were reprehensible and I agree with you that those who might have agreed with some of his views but not the extremes with which he took them should be liked to him. No one deserves that. Anyway... now for something really effing cool in regards to Science and its links to Science Fiction, I give you this: news.discovery.com/space/is-star-treks-tractor-beam-possible.htmlAnd This: www.independent.co.uk/news/science/breakthrough-brings-star-trek-teleport-a-step-closer-451673.htmlWhile I've known about the teleport experiments for some time now, the tractor beam thing I only found out about today. This is the stuff that makes me wish I was my son's age right now.
