Not that I know of. There should be a way to make a group from a friends list and then enter a match together. I'm Cobo in MWO btw.

Lower right corner there's a social button. You can invite friends, create groups and all that jazz. Got to play a little this morning. It's a little laggy but it works. Working with the trial mechs right now and have a ways to go before I can grab something useful.
Added Cobo to my friends list. I r Skotikus

let me know when you can play this game and don't loose your stuff because it's in beta. That is the day I'll start playing.

As far as I can tell, the open beta was the last reset. All gains should be permanent now. Some stuff you want to keep in mind:
The trial mechs really aren't that bad. You just can't customize them. I see people saying they suck because they are the intro mechs, but I think that is wrong.
I suggest trying all the trial mech classes before spending C-Bills (the in game currency) on an actual mech.
Here's a quick review of the mechs I've tried. Keep in mind I like fast mechs. My first character in WoW was a mage because I liked the idea of a squishy character that had to strike and then run away.
Current Trial Mechs (ASFAIK) Raven - Light mech, pretty tough, but slower than I like. Isn't my favorite. Hunchback - I like this one quite a bit. Medium mechs have a good balance of speed and firepower. Catapult - This is the PPC variant. PPCs have lag, so you need to lead the target. Decent, easy to play, but PPCs don't feel like they have the impact on enemies they should. Atlas - Big and stompy. This one is fun. Stick with other mechs though. Lights can get behind you and destroy you. Also watch out for long range autocannons. A couple good shots to the center torseo and the Atlas will pop.
Mechs I like: Commando - Smallest, cheapest mech. Gets a ton of grief, but probably my favorite. Fast, maneuverable, and can pack a punch. I like the multiple SRM variant. Centurion - Another mech people bag on, but I think it looks cool, and I like the weapon load outs. I went with a long range autocannon for it and sniped from the rear until out of ammo, before closing to deal with crippled mechs using medium lasers and SRMs. The left arm can't carry weapons, so torso twisting to take fire on the left can save your weapons. Dragon - Dragons are great. Big, fast, carry lots of weapons. When they still had knockdown, Dragons "punched" above their class. You could just run around steam rolling everything but assault mechs.
Mechs I didn't care for: Jenner - supposedly the best light mech, but I couldn't seem to get the hang of it. Cicada - Just came out. I was really looking forward to this one. A medium mech, but faster than anything else. I couldn't get it to work though... I tried the laser variant, but even loaded up with 3 small and 3 medium lasers I didn't seem very effective. Also has weak legs which are a huge target, so easily crippled. Awesome - The only mech I bought and sold. Heat issues, a missile magnet and not nearly as tough as the Atlas.
Anyway, that's just a brief review. Try the Catapult trial mech... not very many weapons, big enough to survive some hits, and pretty fun. I'll try to be on tonight or tomorrow and start looking for you guys...

Oh, stuff that is still bugged that I learned about the hard way:
- Double Heat Sinks currently do not work - XL Engines are VERY expensive to replace. Avoid until you are rolling in money or using premium time. - When you buy a new mech, take it into a match before trying to mod it. There's a bug that will destroy your armor if you take it into the mechlab to modify. Or there was a few weeks ago. I'm not willing to risk it.
This is only important after you buy a mech but thought I'd pass it on now.

Yes it is open beta now. My account was wiped, so I started over from scratch last night. All gains should be permanent.
They also changed up the trial mech variety. If you have a mech with LRMs use R to target a mech, wait until it the reticle turns red, fire, and then keep the reticle on the enemy until they land. All other weapons are dumb fire so pint and shoot.
I was also friended by "x90". Is that one of you ?

Well I can see lutch the toaster, but I can't figure out how to invite him to a group... Using the same 'social' button, select the group tab. Then select create group. after the group is created, there should be a button at the bottom that reads "group options." from there you can invite people to your group. Got a friend invite from Kellercrib? Is that anyone here?

Anyone been playing? I logged in last night and was surprised there was a patch. I see they
- changed the trial mech variety - added Artemis missile systems (not sure what those do) - Added a winter version of Forest Colony.
I'll have to check the patch notes for other changes.
I have one Commando nearly done with Basic XP packages, going to start working on the other two soon. Thinking of saving up for a Dragon next.

Moving forward in this game is very slow. Seems like you only make credits when you win. I only win 1 in 10 matches so it sucks a bit.

I've been playing as well, at odd times though. Slogging through the trial mechs, saving up to get a Dragon or a Catapult. Almost there, only a million or so credits to go. The Artemis Missile system improves the chance that your missiles will hit. Not sure how it's implemented in MWO, though. But I did play some yesterday after the patch and was constantly destroyed by missile barrages which wasn't the case prior to patch. In reading the forums, it's happening to alot of people. Since I don't have a "owned mech' yet, I'm making about 80k per lose (base is 60) and 100k for wins. I'm pretty sure with 'owned mechs' you have to pay repair and rearming costs which take a large bite of your money if you're losing.
One thing that annoys me is there's no way to chat with friends while at the mechlab.
