Andy and I have been watching Star Wars, which has put me on a bit of a kick for it right now. I know you guys are pretty uninterested, but I was pretty relieved to see this dumb little puppet costume. Full video is hereIt would be really nice to be able to see a Star Wars movie in the theater, with my kid, that is like a fun space adventure. If it just does that I'll be happy.

I know you guys are pretty uninterested, but I was pretty relieved to see this dumb little puppet costume. While I'm not over-the-moon excited to see this one just yet, it's another good sign that they're using actual physical puppets and settings. That is one of the things I'm looking forward to. Claire might be of theater age by the time the last one comes out.

I'm trying to keep my expectations reigned in (The Phantom Menace caused a bit of an existential crisis), but signs are good.
Guardians of the Galaxy, on the other hand, has my expectations running around like a headless chicken!

We're definitely on a Star Wars kick in my house. Just found this site where a 19 year old kid posts real time impressions as he watches various geeky movies for the first time. He's through the Original Trilogy and Princess Bride. I found them entertaining, thought I'd pass it on.

Teaser trailer? Teaser trailer.I mean, the Phantom Menace teaser trailer was pretty good, too, but I may need to reassess my "not very excited about this" from upthread. Granted, we've got a full 12 months to go.

With Disney taking over the rights to Star Wars, the comic book publishing rights also reverted to Marvel. Marvel is scrapping the decades of comics that were previously published by Dark Horse and rebooting with a brand new "Star Wars" comic. The new comic comes out in January, and already the preorder sales are over a million copies, which is insane. Marvel is also releasing a ton of variant covers. None of this is matters to you guys, but check out this variant cover. I lurv it.

Saw this on reddit:
"I don't think Obi-Wan ever meant to confront Luke. I subscribe to the notion that the whole thing was an elaborate trap to lure Darth Vader there for a final battle to the death. He takes Luke there as a child, doesn't even change his last name to anything other than Skywalker, and leaves him with Vader's mom's family on a sparsly populated planet so there's no over abundance of life to hide the kids force talent which is sure to manifest. Then he just sits there in the desert, waiting for Vader to show up so they can throw down on a hardcore force battle in a desert where there won't be much collateral or many opportunities to take hostages. Only he never shows.
Years go by and Obi-Wan is starting to get old. He knows he's getting to the point where he can't physically stand up to that half machine half man, and he's realizing its a waste. He's going to wither away on this ball of sand with no chance to redeem his mistakes from the past or to avenge his fallen Jedi brothers. The purge of the Jedi will be complete. The kid shows up in the canyons one day while he's out hunting mushrooms. He hangs back and sees the Tusken Raiders knock him out, so he swoops in and saves the day. Feels a bit like a hero again. And now there's this hologram. He's back in the game!
But he knows this doesn't change his physical ailments. He still won't be able to stand up to Vader. But this kid... This kid is Vaders son. He can feel the force radiating off him. He doesn't need any of that midichlorian banthashit, and he never even believed in that crap when he was young. With a real jedi you can just tell. And he starts to get a plan. Sure Obi-Wan is old, but this kid is fresh. He's maliable. The Empire is sure to be tracking these droids. He just has to distract him for a while and the inevitable is sure to happen to his family. So what does he do? Start dropping hints about the kids dad. Tell him about him being a great jedi, a great pilot, both things the kid will need to off Vader, and all of it true. And as long as he's hearing what he wants to hear, has stars in his eyes, drop the bomb. Vader killed your dad.
From here Obi-Wan's got him, he's getting ready to somehow steer the kid to go check on his family when they seen the plume of black smoke on the horizon. A blasted out Sandcrawler, mana from heaven! After that the whole thing is dominoes. One after another gathering speed. And in a later showdown with Vader he can die with a smile on his face because he knows he gave it the first push. See Obi-Wan is playing the long con. Sure he's old and can't do it, but with the right manipulation he creates a guided lightsaber wielding missile aimed straight at the Vader. Hell, who knows, if his plan works, might catch the Emperor as collateral. Sure, you might say that's evil, maybe it's cruel. But you could say that he created the savior of the universe..... From a certain point of view."
