Agree with everything except the last. Starwars is cute and always has been. R2D2 was cute, the little RC car droid that Chewy scared in the deathstar was cute, yoda was cute, ewoks are cute... He may have a point that too much is too much. I think the pushback began with the ewoks. That was probably too much cute for some people. If the cute is in small doses it will be just fine. I guess I can understand the preparatory pushback on cute with it being owned by Disney. But I think if they avoid cute like the plague, it will be almost as bad.

The Ewoks were essentially an entire race of cute/comic relief, which got to be a bit much. I don't mind it so much as a viewer, but then I grew up on these movies and don't tend to look at them (the originals) with a critical eye. Also agree. I think a "gritty, realistic" (read: Batman Begins) type movie could be excellent in the Star Wars universe, that's not really what these movies are.

I don't want to see this. Please make them not be in the new movies.

Reads like a PvP browser game. A bit like X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, if only in that it's a dogfighting game in Star Wars vehicles. In Pixar we trust. However I'm not sure how I feel about that at all. The SimCity cockup weighs heavily on the mind.

Browsers can do some cuh-razy stuff these days. It sounds like it runs in a browser but its a straight up sim.

It's World-Of-B-Wings. Nothing wrong with that, per se, just not necessarily my thing. I'd add something about a Star Wars FPS not being my cup of tea, but I played the hell out of Dark Forces back in the day.

The inevitable machine rolls on.
They announced the cast. I'm sure you heard about it. Who dey got?
"Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film."
I'm pretty wary of putting Luke Han and Leia on screen again, but I heard a rumor that the initial movie will be about Han and Leia imprisoned and their kids trying to rescue them. I think I'd be ok with that. I like the fact that most of this cast are unknowns. I was surprised to see Andy Serkis on the cast list (but I guess I shouldn't be) and pretty thrilled to see Max von Sydow on there.
Also good for Kenny Baker. I mean, all that guy ever did was sit in the R2-D2 costume and wiggle it around, but he managed to turn that into an essential role. "Can't make a proper Star Wars without Kenny Baker! No other little person can wiggle about quite like he can!"

This is a good thing. Boyega was in Attack the Block, Driver is the goofy-looking weirdo boyfriend in Girls, but that hardly makes them big names. No "hey Sam Jackson and Liam Neeson are in a Star Wars movie!"

Harry Knowles (noted sugar aficionado) says the new movie is titled "The Ancient Fear". I'm not sure what it's gonna take to get me fired up for this one, but Harry Knowles dropping titles isn't really gonna do it. In a way, this movie is the polar opposite of the forthcoming Godzilla movie. When I first heard about that movie ( in December), I was ready to set up a tent outside the movie theater. Well, except for that whole "I have a child and a wife, and also a home and job, and also I'm not much for camping out, and also it's winter." thing, but you get the gist. I don't even care if it's terrible, I'm there. I'm 100% sold. The Star Wars film, though, I dunno. Sure, JJ Abrahms is a decent enough director, and Disney has churned out some pretty good films in the last few years, and the cast is relatively unknown, so signs point to it being at least okay. But I'm neither hot nor cold about it. I don't even think I can chalk it up to residual Prequel Burnout or anything. Maybe when we start hearing plot details or stills or something, but right now, I got nothin.

I'm not really excited, but I'm interested in what they are doing with it. I think the behind the scenes shaping of the movies will probably turn out to be more interesting to me than the actual films.
Of course, Andy just saw Star Wars, and I am looking forward to taking him to the episode 7 when it comes out. I've also been listening to the Star Wars Minute podcast for a few months, so I'm in a bit of a Star Wars binge at the moment.
Also I'm old and jaded, and my heart is a shriveled black fossil, so I don't know if I even get excited for movies anymore. I'm a real treat!

I don't think the films will be blow-the-doors-off great, but neither will they be actively bad. They'll be room temperature. Perfectly serviceable popcorn munchers, nothing more or less. That's a fine and goodly thing, but it's tough to get jazzed for it. True, there's the Andy Factor. He's pretty much exactly the right age for it, too. Since when did you have a heart?
